When the incumbent mayor of our province announced the 5 years look ahead plan to build a casino in his jurisdiction, rallies against the plan were staged without let up. Even religious leaders and the townsfolk would fight to make sure that casinos do not have a place in our province. They vowed to fight the alarmingly increasing problems and battling gambling addiction would champion the cause of the people who are not in favor of casinos.
Actually, Mr. Mayor is having a very difficult time because his crusade is to fight addiction.. alcohol,drug dependency, smoking and now gaining popularity .. gambling…. The proverbial “rubbing salt into the wounds” holds true in case the construction of casinos begins soon … as feared by protesters more will get hooked to gambling that overall will result to more problems in our society.
We should save souls Mr. Mayor… no gambling dens please… while it is true that it will generate bigger revenues but addiction will not be solved unless measures and education to the people will be properly carried out.
