Eyelid bump

I’ve heard my sister wailing like a small kid in the bathroom early this morning and I was worried.  I wondered why?  She came out sad and frustrated waking up with a stye.  And how frustrating having that eye sore when the debut party we are going to attend is only few days away!  I can’t blame her for she will be one of cotillion dancers and they for sure will be the center of attention.   Hopefully it will be gone before the big event because I know that she will be self -conscious if the stye stubbornly stays.

I made some research about stye and here what Wikepedia says:

An external stye or sty also hordeolumis an infection of the sebaceous glands of Zeis at the base of the eyelashes, or an infection of the apocrine sweat glands of Moll. External styes form on the outside of the lids and can be seen as small red bumps. Internal styes are infections of the meibomian sebaceous glands lining the inside of the eyelids. They also cause a red bump underneath the lid with only generalized redness and swelling visible on the outside. Styes are similar to chalazia, but tend to be of smaller size and are more painful and usually produce no lasting damage. Styes are characterized by an acute onset and usually short in duration (7–10 days without treatment) compared to chalazia that are chronic and usually do not resolve without intervention.

Signs and symptoms

The first sign of a stye is a small, yellowish spot at the center of the bump that develops as pus expands in the area.

Other stye symptoms may include:

  • A lump on the top or bottom eyelid
  • Localized swelling of the eyelid
  • Localized pain
  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Crusting of the eyelid margins
  • Burning in the eye
  • Droopiness of the eyelid
  • Scratchy sensation on the eyeball
  • Blurred vision
  • Mucous discharge in the eye
  • Irritation of the eye
  • Light sensitivity
  • Tearing
  • Discomfort during blinking
  • Sensation of a foreign body in the eye

Cause

Styes are commonly caused by a Staphylococcus aureus bacterial infection, or by the blocking of an oil gland at the base of the eyelash. Although they are particularly common in infants, styes are experienced by people of all ages. Styes can be triggered by poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, lack of hygiene or rubbing of the eyes. Sharing of washcloths or face towels should be curtailed to avoid spreading the infection between individuals. Styes can last from one to two weeks without treatment, or as little as four days if treated properly.

Prevention

Stye prevention is closely related to proper hygiene. Proper hand washing can not only reduce the risks of developing styes, but also all other types of infections.

Upon awakening, application of a warm washcloth to the eyelids for five to ten minutes, three to six times a day, may be beneficial in decreasing the occurrence of styes by liquefying the contents of the oil glands of the eyelid and thereby preventing blockage. Some studies suggest oral flaxseed supplementation to prevent the occurrence of styes.[11]

To prevent developing styes, it is recommended to never share cosmetics or cosmetic eye tools with other people. People should also keep their eye tools clean and generally practice proper eye hygiene. It is recommended to remove makeup every night before going to sleep and discard old or contaminated eye makeup.  The primary mode of treatment for a stye is application of warm compresses. Incision and drainage is performed if resolution does not begin in the next 48 hours after warm compresses are started. The best home cure is to dip tissue into warm (not hot) tea and drape it on your face for 5 minutes.

Eye stye sufferers should avoid eye makeup (e.g., eyeliner), lotions, and wearing contact lenses, since these can aggravate and spread the infection (sometimes to the cornea).

Based on what I have read, I believe that my sister have no recourse but to bear that eyelid bump for couple of days more and she should make up her mind or make the  necessary back up plan for the debut party.  Her stye has just started and it will take around 7 days for it  to disappear and the party will be in about 6 days.

Poor girl!  I’ve seen how her eyes twinkle everytime she is with her dance partner.  Now, we will see if she can still face her partner heads up with that stye just in case she will still attend.   I bet the guy will be disillusioned with her “beautiful” eyes…Lol!

Exciting mode of transportation

I got so excited knowing I will soon have the chance to try riding a “habal-haba” because this summer vacation, I will accompany an aunt to the province where this famous modified motorcycles abound.

Wiki described  Habal-Habal as a motorcycle modified to seat more than two persons. It is in use in provinces in the Philippines where jeepneys and tricycles cannot stand the rough, steep terrain and narrow roads, such as the mountains of Mindanao. It is also called the “Skylab“. According to some sources, this name is either taken from the space station, or a contraction of the phrase “sakay na, lab (get on, love)!”.

I heard the most complex ones can sit around 13 passengers including the driver.  I wonder if they can accommodate me and my aunt’s luggage.   We will see and I will keep you posted.

something sweet… something long and hard

At this time of the year…Kris Kringle.. I think is the most used word.   It is a secret gift giving tradition and has been an integral part of our Christmas celebration.  Let alone in our school, just last week when December ushered in, we had started to draw lots of names and whoever we had picked will be our “baby” and we became the ‘Mommies or Daddies’.   We are then to take care of the ‘baby” by giving him/her the gift of the week.   There will be a list of something to give every week which will be secretly dropped in the box, and that will last until the revelation day usually, on the day of the party itself.

On the first week we had ‘something sweet” to give and I gave my ’baby’ a little box of chocolates.  But whoa… I received a box of sugar cubes.  Yes, I know it is really something sweet, no doubt about it but I wish the giver did not take it literally.   On our second week, it was ‘something long and hard’.  I was excited on what could be my gift for the week?  But hear this, what I received was a bunch of long barbecue sticks!  Sure it is long and hard… Well, what could it be this week .. ‘something weird and funny”.

Oh well, who am i to complain?  There are people who really don’t put much thought in giving gifts.  Now, my excitement already died down with the thought during the revelation of what special gifts will I receive on that day.  Revelation day requires us to bring a bigger and a bit expensive gifts  and I thought of surfing the web of ideal gifts to buy online.

How I wish my daddyor mommy in school will do just the same.   Just wishful thinking.  Alright, I will still believe that  it is better to give than to receive!

Yay… facial hair

A friend set me up on a blind and alright I’ve met this petite, charming lady the other week but the sight and thought of her facial hair is very disturbing.   Noticeably prominent hair are on her chin, sides of her face and the upper lip, is giving me an awkward thought of how can I stand to be super extra sweet to a girl who have a mustache.

In my heart, I wanted to know her more because I found  her interesting during our initial meeting but such a turn off when we met up close, I can’t help looking at her face and seeing those unsightly hair.  She should meet my sister who by all means opted for laser facial hair removal instead of tweezing or plucking them.

I wanted to ask her out again but I am afraid that her facial hair would disturbed me no end and knowing me as a straightforward guy, I might not be able to resist asking her if she has hormonal growth imbalances.   For sure, it would be a minus points for me.

Oh dear, I am torn between knowing her better vs. her unsightly facial hair….

Just for a good laugh!

I woke up this morning oblivious of what had happened last night because I was deep in my dreams after I retired to bed so exhausted. We were on our feet the whole day wrapping up a project due for submission this week and I was already out of circulation, socially and romantically.

My sister while preparing for school was relating to me who won the Miss Universe 2011 but I was not really that interested.  All I knew that our very own representative that is Miss Shamcey Supsup is our Filipino pride because of her beauty and brains and though she did not bag the Miss Universe title, still she won as 3rd runner up.   Not bad at all considering she competed with 88 other gorgeous and equally talented contestants!

Shamcey Supsup- Filipino pride

My sister on her way out told me to open her laptop and have me check who the winners are.   And whoah!  Interestingly enough, check below what I found…

lol… this pic was cleverly edited

Lol.. see what technology can do now!  Well, I dismissed that maybe this pic is a handiwork of one who can’t accept that his/her bet to the pageant did not win.  Or it was done just to amuse all of us and it was a nice try!   But anyway, this pic brought me to my senses and I am ready to start my day.   It aroused my interest to find out the real picture so I browsed the web and indeed Ms. Angola , Miss Lopes is so stunning and pretty and she deserves to win.

the jubilant new Ms.Universe  2011 title holder

It also shows that indeed “black is beautiful”.

What the..is that a boat???

The Royal wedding last April 29 became a parade of flamboyant hats of all color, shapes and sizes.  I’ve read that when attending a special occasion in British society, hats are used to complete one’s wardrobe.  And so, you will not see any lady guest during the wedding without a hat or head dress.   Except of course for the radiant bride who looked splendid in her wedding dress!

Stunning display of hats really!  But there were also guests who stunned me no end…. In the name of fashion and vanity, I can’t helped but exclaimed ” What the .. is that a boat plastered just above her forehead???? A royal blue boat?  Alright, I liked her shoes, the body hugging dress with matching gloves and bag and her pretty face I believed is her saving grace.

I wondered what are other man’s opinion about the picture below…  Anyway.. that’s her fashion sense so why get affected?

what was in this Royal guard’s mind?

Oh well…. girls are undeniably vain and unpredictable!  And funny too!

The Uncomfortable Guest

Just this morning, a very dear friend of mine, who spent the last six years in Japan, has visited our humble home. Tim was my high school classmate and a very close friend. As soon as he landed, the first thing he did was visit our home. I was, of course, surprised by his sudden visit. I told him he should have called or emailed me in advance so that we are more prepared.

You see, Tim has this thing where he’s really picky with where he sits. Yeah, kinda like Sheldon in Big Bang Theory but worse. As he explains, its all depends on whether his butt cheeks feels comfortable or not.

Now the problem is that the chair where Tim always sits on when he’s at our house was already broken a few months back and we haven’t really gotten around to repairing it. What this means is that it would take us a few hours looking for a chair his comfortable with before we can start dinner.

Lol. I guess I need to pull out our stock of chair slipcovers from the closet.

Not all princesses are worth saving

Why is it that whenever a princess is in distress or kidnapped, some random someone is tasked or feels compelled to save her. Why do this? I mean, not all of them are worth saving, right? Why risk your life going through horde of enemies and slaying the final boss, when you can get yourself a piece of action down by your nearest brothel house? What if after all that you find that you’re princess is not what you envisioned her to be.

Kinda like what Shrek found out. Or even our friend, Dan the Man, on our video below:

So before saving that princess, make sure to get a background check on her first.
