Strawberry nails

Strawberry nails caused it all!  I was summoned to the dean’s office concerning my sister Marie who along with her classmates seemingly turned their Mac Lab (computer room) into a nail art salon?  Instead of accomplishing their seat work, they busily worked on their nails and created strawberry designs much to their delight but ruined their moment because they were caught by their professor who showed up out of nowhere.   My sister confessed that she was  tempted to join her other girl friends out of fascination for nail art.

strawberry nails!

She needs to do a lot of explaining to Mom and Dad because I was told that this matter will be brought to their attention too…

My aunt and her money…

Lenten vacation is over!  Considerably too short days off from school but we had a spiritually filled vacation and great bonding moments with loved ones as well.   Of course, we intently celebrated the season of faith with reflection, fast and prayers.  I knew that there were times that I am unfaithful to my Christian covenant  and I felt undeserving  but it is really amazing that still many blessing and graces come my way.

One blessing is that we have a considerate, loving and generous aunt who unselfishly shares her time and money!  She sponsored us her 10 nieces and nephews to an out of town trip to a place we know we youngsters can’t afford to reach unless a good soul will treat us. Choosing the best place to go out of the many choices destinations we have in mind was hard because each one of us has preferences.   We have to think and act fast before Aunt Susie changes her mind- knowing her impatient mood.

So we all agreed to go to Coron Palawan to savor the bounty and beauty of the place.  Their promo pics found on website would speak for itself.   I will post our pictures later on because I have some catching up to do with my project which I temporarily shelved to seize and enjoy the moment.

Club Paradise- a tropical island resort we hope to see and it was answered prayers for all of us to see and savor the exotic marine life, white sand beach, sun, good food, fun shared with my cousins.

we basked in the sun… got suntanned but nobody cares!

Our stay in the island was a taste of paradise indeed!   And Aunt Susie would always run every time she sees all10 of us coming to give her a tight, group hug in deep appreciation for her generosity.  And I am too excited to recount to my friends our heavenly get away in the island of Coron in Northern Palawan, Philippines.

A child’s world…

I chanced upon a  heartwarming picture posted by a friend.   And I thought of my childhood and how yearn to be a child again… carefree…full of life… innocent and pure!

Christmas photo cards

For obvious reasons, I am beginning to miss my ex-girlfriend when I chanced upon the tons of pictures inconspicuously far hidden in my closet and I can’t help but to think of her again.  It’s been a year that we have lost communication when we agreed to “cool off” because of the long distance love affair.  She flew to visit her parents in the Middle East , then eventually she was able to secure a nursing job there and did not come back as planned.  I thought I can handle the set up but I was wrong.

Now, that Christmas is getting near, her memories keep haunting me especially when I recollect that holiday season would bring out her creativity in making Christmas photo cards and sending them to all our common friends and all her loved ones.  But of course, the very first photocard she cleverly and patiently crafted was given to me.   And right now, I am holding the said card admiring our beautiful picture together and yes, wishing I can see her again.

Christmas is the season to share and give love…

Multiple birth

I was tagged!   This is really a heartwarming pic of a family with sextuplets.  This multiple birth in one pregnancy is really amazing!  In search from Wikipedia, I had an interesting find to post as:

Terms used for the order of multiple births in human beings are largely derived from the Latin names for numbers. Two offspring (twins) is the most common form, eight (octuplets) is the largest number ever successfully carried to full term with all children surviving.

  • Two offspring – twins
  • Three offspring – triplets
  • Four offspring – quadruplets
  • Five offspring – quintuplets
  • Six offspring – sextuplets
  • Seven offspring – septuplets
  • Eight offspring – octuplets
  • Nine offspring – nonuplets
  • Ten offspring – decaplets
  • Eleven offspring – undecaplets
  • Twelve offspring – duodecaplets
  • Thirteen offspring – tridecaplets
  • Fourteen offspring – quadecaplets
  • Fifteen offspring – quindecaplets
  • Sixteen offspring – sexdecuplets
  • Seventeen offspring – sepdecuplets
  • Eighteen offspring – octdecuplets
  • Nineteen offspring – nondecuplets
  • Twenty offspring – icosuplets

This is what we call “miracles of life”

Just for a good laugh!

I woke up this morning oblivious of what had happened last night because I was deep in my dreams after I retired to bed so exhausted. We were on our feet the whole day wrapping up a project due for submission this week and I was already out of circulation, socially and romantically.

My sister while preparing for school was relating to me who won the Miss Universe 2011 but I was not really that interested.  All I knew that our very own representative that is Miss Shamcey Supsup is our Filipino pride because of her beauty and brains and though she did not bag the Miss Universe title, still she won as 3rd runner up.   Not bad at all considering she competed with 88 other gorgeous and equally talented contestants!

Shamcey Supsup- Filipino pride

My sister on her way out told me to open her laptop and have me check who the winners are.   And whoah!  Interestingly enough, check below what I found…

lol… this pic was cleverly edited

Lol.. see what technology can do now!  Well, I dismissed that maybe this pic is a handiwork of one who can’t accept that his/her bet to the pageant did not win.  Or it was done just to amuse all of us and it was a nice try!   But anyway, this pic brought me to my senses and I am ready to start my day.   It aroused my interest to find out the real picture so I browsed the web and indeed Ms. Angola , Miss Lopes is so stunning and pretty and she deserves to win.

the jubilant new Ms.Universe  2011 title holder

It also shows that indeed “black is beautiful”.

I’ve found the perfect gift …

Admittedly, thinking of a Father’s Day gift is a yearly dilemma for me, since I always thought that my Dad has everything…..or he can afford to buy whatever his heart desires.  And for a student blogger like me, penny pinching has already been a  part of my system especially if I am eyeing  a special gift for a special person.   I can easily  focus and can discipline myself to reach my target.

I’ve learned that  my adventurous Dad got himself hooked on travel photography.  Mom recounted that recently Dad joined a group of  fellow photography addicts on trips to hidden valleys and the exciting “end of the world” which is a favorite destination for a dream photo shoot.    She too related how she got the scare of her life when the man of the house did not showed up the whole night after he sent her an SMS that he was on his way home.   Apparently, my dad got lost and he said he seemed to be just running in circles and couldn’t find his way home  because of the unfamiliar curves and turns on the roads.

Based on that anecdote, my mind already knew what to give my Dad –  a gps rangefinder which I know he would love to have and would guide him on his future adventures.  Really now, he would no longer fake a smile after opening my gift because I think for the longest time, I’ve been giving him neckties… of assorted colors and designs from casual to formal to funny  and funky….just to made him appreciate my being caring and thoughtful.

some of the ties that Dad received from me….

This time it will be something different and surely the gps wristwatch will be my best gift ever for Dad…….

stylish and functional… perfect gift!

To all you great fathers…enjoy your day… Happy Father’s day!

Honorable mention

Mom e-mailed me the other day that my Dad is into photography these days… in fact, he bought a D90 DSLR camera to start with and had attended Photography workshop.  Serious huh!   Well, he is into something interesting again and knowing my dad, he will pour his hearts and mind into what he is up to.   Truly, though he is a novice in this field… there is no doubt that he took by heart the lessons and tips offered in the workshop.  Along with my Mom, they’ve attended 2 consecutive weeks of training and were given assignments to submit photos taken applying the essential elements of photography.

Well, he was mighty proud that his project was chosen to be among the top 10 best shots despite him being a beginner.  His entry is posted below….. and my Mom’s too…

Dad took this photo using D90 DSLR

Mom said she used her Point & shoot camera to take this pic…

Nice shots Mom and Dad… keep it up….

Dad found another hobby

It is an unlikely news I received from my mom that my dad has found a new hobby- that is photography!  According to her, he bought a new DSLR D90 Nikon camera out of his Performance bonus from the company.  It is not surprising for my dad to received bonuses because he is efficient.  I have to salute his boss for that… he has an eye for hardworking and dedicated employees.  After all, my dad has been with his company for more than 2 decades already and he can do his work even with his eyes closed….

Intrigued why dad opted to buy that camera, I did my little research and this I’ve found out about DSLR.   Thought of sharing this find with you, you might get interested to get one too for yourself.   This is what Wiki says about DSLR:

Most digital single-lens reflex cameras (digital SLR or DSLR) are digital cameras that use a mechanical mirror system andpentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.

The basic operation of a DSLR is as follows: for viewing purposes, the mirror reflects the light coming through the attached lens upwards at a 90 degree angle. It is then reflected three times by the roof pentaprism, rectifying it for the photographer’s eye. (Note that the diagram below incorrectly shows a non-roof pentaprism.) During exposure, the mirror assembly swings upward, the aperture narrows (if stopped down, or set smaller than wide open), and a shutter opens, allowing the lens to project light onto the image sensor. A second shutter then covers the sensor, ending the exposure, and the mirror lowers while the shutter resets. The period that the mirror is flipped up is referred to as “viewfinder blackout”. A fast-acting mirror and shutter is preferred so as not to delay an action photo.

All of this happens automatically over a period of milliseconds, with cameras designed to do this 3–10 times per second.

DSLRs are often preferred by professional still photographers because they allow an accurate preview of framing close to the moment of exposure, and because DSLRs allow the user to choose from a variety of interchangeable lenses. Most DSLRs also have a function that allows accurate preview of depth of field.

Many professionals also prefer DSLRs for their larger sensors compared to most compact digitals. DSLRs have sensors which are generally closer in size to the traditional film formats that many current professionals started out using. These large sensors allow for similar depths of field and picture angle to film formats, as well as their comparatively high signal to noise ratio.

The term DSLR generally refers to cameras that resemble 35 mm format cameras, although some medium format cameras are technically DSLRs.

his new camera…

Seems complicated but I am happy that he found another new hobby- that is photography…
