Among my family, I am considered as the most exposed to technology. This is the reason why I am the go-to guy whenever someone needs something done that relates to gadgets or computers. They kind of see me as the personal tech support of the family. And like a real tech support guy, I can’t help but get a headache.

Just a couple of days ago my granddad asked for help in looking for apartments in North Carolina. I told him that I’d do it for him but he insisted on doing it himself while I teach him step by step. Personally, I find my granddad’s enthusiasm cute and intriguing so I gave in.
I am a person who believes that you can teach a man anything as long as you have perseverance and as long as your student is eager to learn. Unfortunately, teaching a oldie, whose definition of modern technology is limited to the telephone and lightbulb, on how to use the internet has proven to be quite an arduous undertaking.
The lesson went on like so:
Me: Ok, were on Google. Type in the words that you want to search.
GrandDad: How do I do that?
Me: Just start typing
GrandDad: What shall I type?
Me: Try “Apartment in Durham, NC”
GrandDad: Will it understand NC? Why not use the long version, “North Carolina”?
Me: It doesn’t matter. Google is smart enough to know.
GrandDad: It’s that smart? My, how terrifying technology has become!
Me: Here are the search results, go ahead and click the one that says “nc-apartments.com“.
GrandDad: How do you click?
Me: With the mouse.
GrandDad: With a what?
It took about an hour for my Granddad to learn about the mouse, and an hour more to navigate websites. He got what he was looking for though.
For next week, he wants to learn FaceBook. Uh-oh.
Wants to resign ~ Pol
The name's Pol and I'm a guy who really loves to talk and rant. In this blog, I mostly talk about technology, gadgets and the internet, but there are times when I also dabble in other stuff like art, movies, comics, and video games.
