My brother had this essay that he needed to write for school and asked me for some tips. They were asked to take a multi-aptitude test on the internet and reflect on the result. Being a person who loves to talk and rant, I decided to write one for myself.
There was a time before when I thought that I completely know who I am. I thought I know all my quirks, what my likes are, what I hate, but I eventually found out that I was wrong.
For example, I used to think that I am a person who, if ever falls in love, will never fall-out of love. Ever. I eventually found out I was wrong at the expense of hurting my girlfriend (Don’t worry we’re back now, and I’ve learned to love her even more). I thought I had my life under control when I learned that I’ve been careening out of control for the past 7 years.
It’s funny. I usually had this motto of “Know thyself”, but it seems that constantly saying that to yourself is not enough. A multi-aptitude test may help you point you in a direction, but I don’t think that such a thing is accurate enough for your life to hinge on.
I found out that most, if not everyone, no matter how long they lived on this world. Still surprise themselves. Everyday someone learns something new about themselves. Is it because humans are naturally complex, constantly learning, constantly evolving beings that it’s impossible for one to completely “know thyself”? Is this the reason why Aliens haven’t attacked us yet? They still haven’t fully understood us that they’re afraid we go change at the last minute and change into superheroes and kick the shit out of them when they attack?
Personally, I find this fascinating. It’s like watching a TV show. If there’s always something new, you’re bounded to your seat. But if the same shtick all over again, I completely lose interest.
Maybe this is how people are really supposed to live: To get to know themselves better. Even if it is impossible to know everything, at least people can try. So that if ever there really is a St. Peter up in heaven who is going to ask you questions about your life, you’re prepared.
Afraid of what I might become ~ Pol
The name's Pol and I'm a guy who really loves to talk and rant. In this blog, I mostly talk about technology, gadgets and the internet, but there are times when I also dabble in other stuff like art, movies, comics, and video games.
