Camping trips were something that I’ve always enjoyed when I was a wee little scout but sadly never got around to do when I became older. It was a fun experience that I always look forward to and I kind of miss it. Especially since I’ve been spending a lot of my days in my dorm room that I am starting to feel its starting to puke me out. This is why when G and Vincent, two friends whom I recently learned were frequent campers, invited me to join them in their weekly camping sessions. I didn’t hesitate to accept.
I figured that since I will be doing this thing regularly, I had to prepare and gear myself up for future trips. So I went out yesterday and bought myself a couple of camping gear. So far, I got my very own camping backpack, some outdoor emergency equipment and a pair of sturdy hiking boots.
Having your own backpack when camping is common sense. I found that camping backpacks are better than a normal backpack since they are designed for the camper in mind. I first thought that the extra pockets and multitude of straps are an overkill but I eventually found out that they are a really big help!
The same thing can be said for shoes. Sneakers are a no-no. Believe me, I learned it the hard way. Other types of shoes such as bike shoes are also a bad idea. What I bought was a pair of good old hiking boots which fit the bill nicely.
I am also thinking of buying a pair of trail shoes in the future. G and Vincent likes to have a run every morning and I am afraid my hiking boots are not up to the task. I do have some regular running shoes but those aren’t designed for the rough terrain of the outdoors.
I still have a lot to buy but I am enjoying the transition. It isn’t easy though and is taking some time to adjust. But it is a fun and refreshing experience for a person who spends almost all of his time in front of the computer.
I’ll buy my very own tent next.
